Single to Three Phase

Phase conversion really means in the world of a rotary converter that an extra phase is produced in a two phase line that is usually represented by a single to three phase call out. The 1 to 3 phase is actually two to three phase discussed later. The term phase conversion should be renamed phase production. A convert-a-phase converter or phase converter or better yet rotary converter may be renamed a convert-a-phase phase generator. Phase generator is a more accurate name for what is taking place. Phase conversion only takes place in the sense that one of the phases of the single to three phase system is connected to the manufactured phase by a capacitor to maintain a correct phase angle with the existing single phase system.

A phase converter or rotary phase converter is a three phase electrical machine that is energized by single phase power. The phase converter uses the process of induction and capacitors to convert a third phase to be utilized by electrical equipment acceptable to phase converter power.
